Top 5 Trends That Will Modernize The Broadcast Industry

16 Aug 2019 0 comments

Fact: Broadcasting uses information as a commodity. It is traded, consumed, appraised,  and most especially, sold to generate profit. That being said, Broadcasting is a lucrative business. Competition is cut-throat in this industry with competing companies going as far as investing in state-of-the-art studio equipment just to be one step ahead of others.

Trends exist as a cultural cycle of innovation and improvement. Trends happen because they are effective. In this world of immediate gratification, consumers want information in an instant. These 5 trends in the Broadcasting Industry serve as tools in delivering quality content and information to audiences.

Trend # 1: Emergence of Better Video Formats

With newer video formats, such as 4k Ultra HD (3840 x 2160 px ) and 8K Ultra HD (7680 x 4320 px) The right kind of studio equipment is key in creating high-quality video content. These new formats create an immersive experience.

An immersive viewing engages audiences which makes information easier for them to consume. This makes advertising’s effect increase exponentially. Advertisements are often regarded as the bread and butter for a lot of independent studios.

Trend # 2: Artificial Intelligence

AI has revolutionized the Broadcasting since its first integration in the industry. It can be utilized for several things and the industry has never stopped being creative. Just last year, China unveiled its first AI Engish New Anchor.

AI can help in providing subtitles or closed captions ( CC) for videos to cater to a wider audience. It can also aid in the quality check of content before airing for broadcast.

Metadata enhances the value of any content and AI takes it to a whole new level. It improves your metadata to increase findability through automated content tagging, mapping, machine learning, and many others.

Trend # 3: IP Technology

Since the finalization of the suits of standards of SMPTE ST 2110 ( Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers) two years ago, IP has been expected to thrive as it continues to be adopted in broadcasting.

IP technology allows people in the industry to use higher quality content formats and deliver information instantly in cases of remote production. Not only can it support Ultra HD productions, but it also compels broadcast professionals to adapt to technological advances.

Trend # 4: The 5G Revolution

5G enabled devices have already hit the market early this year. With top brands spearheading its emergence. It should be a wise move for broadcasters to study ways on how  5G can affect the industry in the future.

5G allows fast substantial amounts of data transfer and can operate through a vast variety of frequencies.  The Future of 5G in the broadcasting industry seems bright.

Trend # 5:  Content

It’s already 2019 but Content will always stay King.  Delivering quality content for audiences remains a top priority in the industry as different broadcast networks vie for the best content.

As of last year, top tier companies have invested billions of dollars in producing content. Netflix spent  $13 Billion, Facebook $1 Billion, and Apple $1.5 Billion. Ampere analysis predicts that these budgets could go double by 2023.  These investments include story creation, production, and purchase of high-end studio equipment.

If you’re working in an independent studio, or interested in starting one,   investing in the right studio equipment is the first step in making the most from these trends. You may want to contact us for more information on how to get the right equipment for you.
